About Us

The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches. One of the 80 chapters worldwide, ours was founded in the summer 2000 by environmentally conscious surfers in Austin, Texas. We welcome people of all ages who are interested in helping work toward our goals. The ability to surf is not a requirement.

With 367 miles of coastline in Texas, the Central Texas Chapter represents and is dedicated to protecting the entire coast with The Surfrider Foundation. We are a grassroots organization working to protect the health and secure access for all to our local waterways and the entire Gulf Coast while preserving the waves and beaches of Texas. We are comprised of everyday people who care about environmental issues and want to make a difference by increasing awareness.

The general public and our members meet monthly at Wahoo’s Fish Taco downtown to go over on-going chapter business and discuss up-coming events and campaign issues.  The chapter’s executive committee meets bi-monthly and we also have supplemental meetings to implement our campaign and program plans.  These are scheduled monthly or bimonthly, and anyone is welcome to attend them.

We pride ourselves on being a strong voice in the community, and look to strengthen that voice by expanding our membership. If you have ever thought about getting involved, we encourage you to do so. If you don’t have a lot of time to help participate in events, raise money and awareness, or  fight bad policies, simply by becoming a member  you are helping the Surfrider Foundation confront water pollution, beach access, beach loss, and other serious concerns facing your beaches and lakes.
